Gloucestershire v Northants Abandonment - Chair's Update
2 September 2024
TRANSCRIPT
Hello everybody, I'm Peter Matthews. I'm the newly appointed Chair of Gloucestershire County Cricket Club.
It's certainly been an interesting start with the abandonment of the game against Northamptonshire last Thursday. And what I wanted to do was just give everybody an update on what's happened since and what we're expecting to happen over the coming days.
On Friday we were visited by the pitch inspector from the ECB. He spent time here looking at the wicket, and chatting to the ground staff. He then went away to file his report. Today, Monday, we were then visited by the independent regulator. This is a new system that the ECB have put in place for 2024. The regulator didn't look at the pitch but has spent time talking to various people involved in the game - the captain, Graeme Van Buuren, the coach, Mark Alleyne, the head groundsman, and other people who are on-site on the day.
We now expect the regulator to go back and file a report. We would expect a final verdict to be given to the county sometime within the next 10 days or so.
Obviously, once we hear that verdict, we will announce it through our usual media channels.
In the meantime, it's an exciting week for the county with the T20 quarterfinal up at Edgbaston on Friday. I shall certainly be there and look forward to seeing any of you who are going to travel.
Thank you.
