Gloucestershire to play Wiltshire at 2023 Cheltenham Cricket Festival
21 June 2023
Gloucestershire Cricket is delighted to announce we will once again host a National County fixture against Wiltshire to the already impressive Visit Cayman Islands Cheltenham Cricket Festival lineup, with the 50-over match scheduled for Sunday 30th July.
The world famous festival will now offer 12 days of cricket in 15 days compiled of two LV= Insurance County Championship matches, one Rachael Heyhoe Flint trophy match and two One Day Cup match alongside the Wiltshire game.
Pete Sykes, Managing Director at Wiltshire Cricket said: “We are delighted that once again Wiltshire will be competing against Gloucestershire in our showcase match but more importantly we are really pleased that the fixture will once again form part of the wonderful Cheltenham Cricket Festival.
“From a cricketing perspective playing at the festival represents a fantastic, and in many cases unique, opportunity for all of our players. However, equally important to this is the arrangement we have reached with Gloucestershire to dedicate a share of gate receipts towards our Talent Pathway Support Fund. The fund was launched in 2022 but without monies attributed to it and so it is so valuable for us to be able to use events like this in order to raise vital funds that in turn will support the young cricketers who most need our assistance.”
Gloucestershire last faced the National County at Cheltenham College during the festival last year ahead of the Royal London Cup campaign. Gloucestershire won the match by 218 runs thanks to centuries from both James Bracey and Ben Wells.
Gloucestershire Cricket Chief Executive, Will Brown, added: “It's always a wonderful occasion when Wiltshire play Gloucestershire and we're delighted to be able to continue the recent tradition of playing the fixture at the iconic Cheltenham Cricket Festival.
“It will be fantastic to welcome our neighbours to Cheltenham in what will promises to be another excellent festival that boasts a bumper schedule of six matches across 12 days."
