Gloucestershire to host hybrid pitch walkthrough

5 September 2024

Gloucestershire would like to invite Members and supporters to come and take an up close look at our hybrid pitch during our next County Championship match against Sussex.

There has been much discussion around the use of hybrid pitches in recent days and while we are unable to comment further at present on the ongoing process and investigation surrounding last Thursday’s abandonment vs Northamptonshire, we would like to offer Members and supporters with the opportunity to learn more about our hybrid pitch.

During lunch on day one vs Sussex on Tuesday 17th September, Head Groundsperson, Sean Williams and Head of Ground Operations, Austen Cornell, will host a walkthrough on the hybrid wicket at the Seat Unique Stadium. The session, which will be weather dependent, will give Members and supporters the opportunity to see the hybrid wicket up close, learn about the unique attributes of them and ask questions of how our team maintains them.

Anyone wishing to enter the outfield, either to attend the walkthrough or to enjoy the lunch break on the outfield, will be invited to enter the field of play by a steward once the players have left the field of play. Entry to the outfield will be available via the Kennington Road side of the ground and via the players’ entrance to the pitch in front of the Pavilion.

All supporters and Members are reminded not to enter the square when on the outfield and may only do so during the walkthrough when invited to by a either Sean or Austen.

Peter Matthews, Chair at Gloucestershire Cricket, said: “Like many of us, I have little understanding of the mechanics of a hybrid pitch and think it is an excellent idea from the operations and groundstaff team to provide some insight. I will be there and look forward to seeing those of you who are able to come along too.”
