Gloucestershire to host ‘Greener Games’ sustainability conference
12 August 2024
Gloucestershire Cricket will host the first ever club-led sustainability conference as part of the Club’s ambition to develop a community driven climate action plan.
The ‘Greener Games’ conference will take place on Thursday 17th October and will see a series of special guests (to be confirmed at a later date) join the wider cricketing community for a unique opportunity to take part in positive climate conversations.
The event, believed to be the first of its kind to be held by a first-class county, will take place from 6:30pm at the home of Gloucestershire Cricket, the Seat Unique Stadium, and comes as part of the Club’s work with the Bristol Climate & Nature Partnership. Thanks to a bursary from the Bristol Climate & Nature Partnership, Gloucestershire is working to develop a climate action plan led by engagement from various stakeholders in the cricket community. This event is part of the Community Climate Action Project, funded by the National Lottery’s Community Fund and co-ordinated by Bristol Climate & Nature Partnership.
In partnership also with The Next Test, who are a non-profit climate and sustainability organisation, Gloucestershire aims to increase awareness around the subject of climate change and also highlight the voice of the local community in the climate conversation.
The Greener Games conference, which is free to attend, will include Q&As with guest speakers and roundtable discussions on subjects like what cricket clubs, from grassroots clubs to first-class counties, can do to be more environmentally considerate.
Working alongside the Bristol Climate & Nature Partnership, Gloucestershire hopes to develop and implement its own climate action plan for a more sustainable future spring/summer 2025.
