Gloucestershire struggling to avoid innings defeat

24 May 2013

Craig Miles took a career-best 6-99 for Gloucestershire at New Road today, but Michael Klinger's side are still struggling to avoid an innings defeat after closing the third day's play on 87-5 and requiring a further 136 to make Worcestershire bat again.

Worcestershire, who resumed on 302-3, lost four wickets quickly before an eighth-wicket stand of 98 between Gareth Andrew and Jack Shantry re-established their total control and put them on the way to a final total of 457.

Miles took two of the last three wickets and the teenager could take great pride from another impressive bowling display in only his fourth first-class match. It bettered his previous best haul of 4-83, taken against Hampshire at Bristol earlier this month.

However, Gloucestershire's batsman again found it hard work against in-form veteran seamer Alan Richardson and the rest of the Worcestershire attack.

Richardson has taken 11 wickets in the match so far after following the eight he claimed in the first innings with the dismissals of Chris Dent, Dan Housego and Alex Gidman, who made a gritty 32.
