Gloucestershire sign Allison on loan
16 August 2019
Gloucestershire have signed Essex youngster Ben Allison on a four-week loan that will commence on August 18.
The 19-year old from Colchester will be available for selection in time to face Derbyshire in the Specsavers County Championship on Sunday.
Ahead of his loan move, Allison said:
"I’m really looking forward to heading over to Gloucestershire and I want to take full advantage of the great opportunity that has been presented to me.
It’s been a good season for me with the Essex Second XI and hopefully I’ll be able to make my first-class debut during this loan spell and get some valuable experience.”
The young fast-bowler has shown plenty of promise to date, representing England Under 19’s in a Youth ODI at Canterbury in 2017. He took one wicket and had the best economy of any Englishman at 3.18.
Ben signed his first professional contract with Essex to begin the 2019 season and has impressed enough at the southeast Club to earn a contract extension until the end of the 2020 season.
With Matt Taylor, Stuart Whittingham and Benny Howell all out with injury, Gloucestershire have had to seek extra cover in the bowling department. The addition of Ben Allison along with the recent signing of Josh Shaw will give Head Coach Richard Dawson options in his bowling attack.
