Gloucestershire flies new LGBTQIA+ flag to celebrate Bristol Pride
24 June 2022
Gloucestershire President David Lawrence hoisted a brand new LGBTQIA+ flag at the Seat Unique Stadium in Bristol today to celebrate Pride Month and Bristol Pride.
June is Pride Month and the new two new flags, which are flying high at The Shire’s home venue ahead of tonight’s match v Hampshire Hawks, represent the Club’s continued support for Bristol Pride.
Bristol Pride is an annual event that starts tomorrow (June 25) and runs until 11 July. The city-wide celebration sees communities come together to recognise diverse groups and raise awareness of the need for further equality. Pride Day takes place on Saturday 9 July and promises to be “louder and prouder than ever” as it marks the 50th anniversary of the first pride march in the UK.
David Lawrence, Club President at Gloucestershire Cricket, said: “It’s all about diversity and inclusivity, I want everyone to be welcomed at Gloucestershire, regardless of their ethnicity, gender, religion or sexuality; it’s so important that we champion these causes.”
The brand new Pride flags at the Seat Unique Stadium were only released last year and include a yellow triangle with a purple circle in it to represent intersex people, their community, and their rights, as well as a variety of other colours that represent ethic groups, non-binary individuals, the transgender community and the wider LGBTQIA+ community.
Daryn Carter, Director of Programming and Partnerships at Bristol Pride, added: “Visibility for our community is such a key thing; a lot of people come to watch cricket so it’s important to see our community reflected. To see these flags up here is fantastic and I think it’ll mean so much to people that come to the games and recognise they are welcome.”
