Gloucestershire Cricket unveils Silent Hobo mural honouring pace bowling legends

10 April 2025

Gloucestershire Cricket is excited to announce the completion of a stunning new mural paying tribute to the club’s legendary seam bowlers.

Located on the left side of the Jack Russell Stand, the mural celebrates the achievements of four of the Club's all-time great pace bowlers: David 'Syd' Lawrence, Courtney Walsh, David Payne, and Mike Procter.

Designed and produced by Silent Hobo, an artist whose distinctive style is already featured throughout the ground, the mural features four greats with a collective wicket tally of almost 3,500.

Reflecting on the mural, Chief Executive at Gloucestershire Cricket Neil Priscott said:

"We are thrilled to unveil this wall of legends to our fans. Celebrating Gloucestershire’s seam bowling greats is so important, and we wanted to do this in a unique way.

"This mural not only serves as a great photo opportunity but also stands in a location visible from much of our seating, allowing all supporters to share in this special tribute."

The featured pace bowlers are widely regarded as four of the finest to ever play in Gloucestershire colours.

David 'Syd' Lawrence, the Club’s current President, took 625 wickets in 280 matches for Gloucestershire, renowned for his fierce pace and feared by batters.

Courtney Walsh, a West Indies legend, took 1,112 wickets during his 11-season tenure at the club, adding to his distinguished international career.

David Payne, currently playing for Gloucestershire, has taken 634 wickets for the club, including 193 in T20s, making him the club’s leading T20 wicket-taker.

Mike Procter took an impressive 1,113 wickets during his 16-year career with Gloucestershire between 1965 and 1981, appearing in 482 matches for the club.

The mural is a fitting tribute to these pace bowling icons and a lasting addition to the Club's rich history.
