Gloucestershire Cricket Promote Paul Muchall to Talent Pathway Head Coach
1 March 2023
After an impressive year as Gloucestershire Cricket’s Pathway Lead Bowling Coach, Paul Muchall has been promoted to the position of Talent Pathway Head Coach.
Muchall will lead the coaching of players in Gloucestershire’s Academy and Emerging Player Programme (EPP).
Since finishing his playing career with Gloucestershire in 2013, Muchall has coached across all age groups in the Club’s Pathway before his full-time appointment as Talent Pathway Lead Bowling Coach in March 2022.
On his promotion, Muchall said:
“I’m very grateful for the opportunity to continue my coaching journey with Gloucestershire by working with the Club’s Pathway players.
“I look forward to playing my part in helping our young cricketers develop and reach their goals. The big aim for all should be to be playing at the Seat Unique Stadium before too long.”
His Gloucestershire Pathway coaching experience comes alongside five years as Head Coach of Bath Cricket Club, a role in which he will continue. Spells in Hong Kong with the MCC Young Cricketers and in the South West at Bristol Grammar School and Collegiate complete an extensive CV.
Head of Talent Pathway at Gloucestershire Cricket Mark Thorburn, said:
“Paul is an extremely experienced and qualified coach so we’re delighted to have someone of his calibre in this role.
“He’s a product of the highly regarded Durham Academy and was an MCC Young Cricketer before joining our staff, which places him perfectly to develop our talented young cricketers.
“Talent Pathway Head Coach has massive influence over our young players’ transition to the professional playing staff and Paul has all the skills to succeed in this role.”
Performance Director at Gloucestershire Cricket, Steve Snell, said:
“Paul’s transition to Talent Pathway Head Coach is deserved recognition for the investment he has put into his coaching while at Gloucestershire. Paul has worked extensively across our whole Pathway for a significant period of time and has demonstrated high-quality coaching and an evolving skillset, delivered with personality and energy.
“Paul’s promotion recognises the overarching role Mark Thorburn has taken on overseeing the Pathway and Paul will provide further support to Mark with our Elite Programmes.
“I’ve been impressed with the quality and intent of our coaching network across the whole of Gloucestershire, and this appointment shows there are opportunities available for our coaches to progress.
“The Gloucestershire Cricket Pathway, the recreational and community game, and the Gloucestershire Cricket Foundation are doing a fantastic job in providing opportunities and education to our coaches.”
Gloucestershire Cricket U18s play their first friendly against London Schools on Thursday 13 April before a first competitive match versus Worcestershire in the T20 Cup on Sunday 14 May.
