Gloucestershire Cricket legends support event to help reduce loneliness amongst the city’s elderly
13 November 2015
On Thursday 19th November from 12pm – 3pm Gloucestershire Cricket in partnership with Sporting Memories Network are hosting the country’s first 'Chat, Play, Unite' event at the Bristol County Ground.
More than 50 older people from the city have been invited to spend their lunchtime at the Optimum Sports Bar where they will share memories of Gloucestershire’s ‘good ol days’, play board games and have a go at indoor cricket.
The event is aimed at reducing social isolation amongst the elderly population, strengthening links between the older and younger generations of our community, as well as increasing participation in physical activity.
Gloucestershire Legends including Syd Lawrence and Mark Alleyne will be coming along on the day, plus some of the most promising sports stars emerging from City Academy in Easton will be delivering activities supported by Gloucestershire Cricket Board coaches.
Throughout the session ‘Memory Makers’ from Bedminster Down Secondary School will also be speaking to the participants and recording their memories of being a Gloucestershire Cricket fan to use in similar events in the future.
