Gloucestershire Cricket kit collection helps hundreds in need
10 December 2021
Gloucestershire Cricket’s community has come together to donate hundreds of items of clothes, sportswear and equipment, to people in need this winter at the Club’s inaugural Kit Drop & Swap.
Christmas is a time for giving and together with our local residents, cricket clubs and our talent pathway teams, Gloucestershire Cricket has proudly been able to giftwrap good quality used kit and equipment, and give them as presents to people who may not be in a position to buy luxuries like new clothes for themselves.
Over the course of three days between December 2 and December 4, several hundreds of second-hand items were collected at Bristol County Ground’s Kit Swap & Drop donation centre, and have since been sent off to charities who support people in vulnerable and/or disadvantaged positions.
At Gloucestershire Cricket we believe the game of cricket is for all and therefore should be accessible to as many young people as possible, at all levels, from all backgrounds, and thanks to the generosity and kind-hearted good will of our wider cricketing family, huge piles of clothes and equipment have been donated to worthy causes.
All children sportswear and junior cricket equipment has been donated to Bat For A Chance, an international charity whose goal is to give underprivileged children a chance to experience the joy of cricket. Meanwhile all adult sportswear has been donated to Aid Box Community, a Bristol-based charity who support refugees, and all non-sportswear has been gifted to the Homeless Health Service, who provide help and act as a support network to the homeless population of Bristol and South Gloucestershire.
Jess Jones, Community Programmes Officer at Gloucestershire Cricket, said: “We’ve been completely overwhelmed by the generosity and good-will of everyone in our local community who donated towards the Kit Drop & Swap.
“We’d like to thank the people, clubs and organisations who supported us by donating their used clothes and cricket equipment; together we’ve been able to make a real difference to people not only within our local community, but also around the world who need support.”
Following the success of our first ever Kit Drop & Swap, Gloucestershire Cricket is passionate about and committed to taking part in many more impactful community programmes in the New Year and beyond.
