Gloucestershire Cricket – Executive Board Appointments

At a meeting of the Club’s Executive Board on Monday 25 April, Roger Cooke was re-elected as Chairman of the Club and Dr Tim Brain was re-elected as Deputy Chairman, both for a further 12 months.

At the Club’s Annual General Meeting, which was held on the same day, Roger Cooke, Tim Brain and Tony Elgood were all re-elected to the Club’s Executive Board for a further 3 years with former player, Andy Brassington, similarly elected for 3 years.

John Hollingdale, who formally took over the role as the Club’s Honorary Treasurer, succeeded Tony Elgood who had served six years.

Mr Roger Cooke
Roger was born in Bristol and has been a lifelong supporter of the Club, and an inaugural member of the Premier Club.  He was greatly honoured to become Chairman of the Club in 2013 and has served on the Executive Board since 2006.  He was Honorary Treasurer from 2007 to 2010 and Deputy Chairman from 2010 to 2013.  He is a life member and former Chairman of the Gloucestershire Exiles.

He spent his business career as a Chartered Accountant, advising clients as a professional taxation consultant at Arthur Andersen.  He was head of the London tax practice for 10 years, before taking over the leadership of the UK and Europe, Middle East, Africa and India tax practices.  He spent 2 years in Chicago as world-wide Chief Financial Officer of what was then a 60,000 employee organisation.

Roger enjoys many sports and is a keen tennis player and skier.

Dr Timothy Brain OBE QPM BA PhD FRSA CCMI
Tim has been a proud supporter of the Club since childhood, having been born and brought up in Kingswood, Bristol, and living most of his life in Bristol and Gloucestershire. Since 2010 he has served as a member of the Executive Board (becoming Deputy Chairman in 2013).

He is a graduate of Aberystwyth University with first class honours and a PhD in history. He was a career police officer from 1978, becoming Chief Constable of Gloucestershire in 2001. He led the response to the flooding in 2007 and retired in 2010.

He is also a member of the Finance and the Cheltenham and North Cotswold Region Committees.

John Hollingdale
John is Bristol born and bred.  He is a keen sports fan and a lifelong supporter of Gloucestershire.  John, who enjoys long distance walking and cycling, also plays golf, tennis and badminton.

He is a retired chartered accountant and ex-partner of Deloittes, Hollingdales and through successive takeovers of Kidsons and then Baker Tilly.  He is Chairman of Space Engineering Services Limited, a national refrigeration company based in Bristol, and is the current Treasurer of the SS Great Britain and Chairman of We Care and Repair, a local charity.

John was educated at Queen Elizabeth’s Hospital School in Bristol and at Keble College, Oxford.  He qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1975.  He is also an Arbitrator and has acted on many arbitration appointments over the last fifteen years.

Mr Andrew (Andy) Brassington
Andy joined the Club in 1973 and spent 16 years on the playing staff and after retiring in 1988 became Marketing Manager for 8 years. For the last 18 years he has been running a successful Corporate Hospitality Company called ‘Finders Keepers’ where he has been able to support the Club through sponsorship, advertising and match day hospitality.

As a past player, he also organises the Former Gloucestershire Players’ day working closely with the Professional Cricketers’ Association, enhancing the unity, heritage and history.
