Gloucestershire Cricket awards testimonial year to Chris Dent in 2024
10 November 2023
Gloucestershire Cricket is delighted to announce that Chris Dent has been awarded a testimonial year in 2024 in recognition to his service to the Club.
Born in Bristol and having joined the Club’s pathway aged 12, Chris made his debut for Gloucestershire in September 2009 in a Pro40 Division One match vs Nottinghamshire.
Now aged 32, Chris is Gloucestershire’s longest serving player having made more than 350 appearances across 15 seasons for his boyhood club. In that time, Chris has gone on to score 11,119 First-Class runs, 2,446 in List A cricket and 1,543 in T20 matches for Shire, making him one of the highest scoring run-scorers in the Club’s recent history.
Speaking about his excitement for his testimonial year, Chris said: “I feel really honoured to have been awarded a testimonial year. I have been at the club since I was 12-years-old and truly see it as a second home. Looking back at some of the players to have had testimonials previously, it makes me realise how special it is.”
Chris graduated from Gloucestershire’s age group squads and Academy to become captain and opening batter of the County Championship and One-Day cup sides in 2018. He served as Club captain until 2022 before stepping down for the role to concentrate on his own game.
Among a catalogue of career highlights for Chris at Gloucestershire will no doubt be his involvement in the side that won the 2015 Royal London One Day Cup vs Surrey at Lord’s in 2015.
In last season's 2023 County Championship season, Chris Dent scored 694 runs including a season-best 113 vs Glamorgan at the Cheltenham Cricket Festival.
Will Brown, Chief Executive at Gloucestershire Cricket, added: “It is fantastic to see Chris being awarded a testimonial year in 2024. Throughout his time at the Club Chris has been a player who has shown impeccable loyalty, match-winning skill and fantastic professionalism. For as long as I’ve been lucky enough to work with Chris, he has been the model professional and throughout his career at Gloucestershire so far, has clearly provided immense contributions season after season. His leadership off the pitch has been equally exceptional and there is no doubt that his commitment to the Club and playing squad throughout the pandemic was key to not only our survival but also in ensuring that that we had a period of cricket in which we flourished.”
“Everyone at Gloucestershire would like to congratulate Chris on receiving a testimonial year in honour of all he has done for the Club to date, and are very much looking forward to supporting him wherever we can next year.”
