Gloucestershire Cricket announces 2013 Fixtures

26 November 2012

Gloucestershire supporters can look forward to an exciting summer of cricket with the Friends Life t20 coming to the Brewin Dolphin Cheltenham Cricket Festival for the first time.  There are also some terrific fixtures to coincide with the development of our Pavilion at Bristol.

Gloucestershire’s 2013 bid for LV= County Championship honours will begin with an away fixture at Chelmsford v Essex on Wednesday 10 April.   The first home fixture of 2013 at the County Ground, Bristol, will see the Club hosting Northamptonshire on Wednesday 24 April.

The Club’s Clydesdale Bank 40 (CB40) campaign gets underway on Sunday 12 May when Gloucestershire welcome Middlesex to Bristol.

Supporters can also look forward to some thrilling Friends Life t20 clashes in Bristol – the first home tie of the season sees Worcestershire travel to the County Ground on Sunday 30 June.

Glos CCC is really pleased to announce that Friends Life t20 cricket is coming to the Brewin Dolphin Cheltenham Cricket Festival for the very first time with 3 fixtures against Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and a local derby against Glamorgan.  The  Festival gets underway on Wednesday 10 July with a four-day LV= County Championship match v Kent, always good opponents at the Festival and this will be followed by a Friends Life t20 match on Sunday 14 July when Warwickshire will be our opponents.  The FLt20 match versus Northamptonshire follows on Tuesday 16 July and we then welcome back Worcestershire to Cheltenham for 4 days for the best of LV= County Championship local derbies commencing on Wednesday 17 July.  The Festival concludes with the final FLt20 match, another local derby, versus Glamorgan on Sunday 21 July.

Following a closely fought one day match in August 2012, when the Club hosted the touring South African side, Gloucestershire Cricket has again been chosen to host a Tourist Match in 2013.  The Australia “A” squad will take on the home team in Bristol for an exciting 3 days of cricket, commencing on Friday 21 June.    Later in the summer, England Lions will play Bangladesh”A” at the County Ground on Tuesday 20 August.   Members will be pleased to learn that both these additional fixtures will be included in their annual subscription.

Gloucestershire welcome old rivals Somerset to the County Ground, Bristol on two occasions during 2013; the first on Friday 26 July for a Friends Life t20 clash and then again on Bank Holiday Monday (26 August) in the CB40 league.  Both of these matches are expected to draw large crowds.

Chief Executive, Tom Richardson, said:  “It is great to have our fixtures confirmed for 2013 and we are pleased that our home matches are evenly spread over the summer.

We are very excited to be introducing the Friends Life t20 to Cheltenham and are confident that it will be a great success on what is a small outfield with the crowd very close to the action.  We always try to have exciting fixtures at the Cheltenham College ground but, of course, we do have to take our place as one of 18 First Class Counties in what is always a scheduling challenge.  However, to have a 4-day match against Worcestershire - our northern neighbours - and local matches against Glamorgan and Warwickshire is really good news.  Kent are also good opponents so we are pleased.

Hosting both Australia “A” in Bristol for a 3 Day match in June and England Lions in August are added bonuses and we have much to look forward to next year.

2013 promises to be a landmark year for Gloucestershire Cricket.  Our ground redevelopment project is well underway and we all eagerly anticipate the opening of our brand new Pavilion during the latter part of the season.”
