Gloucestershire draw with Worcestershire

26 March 2015

Gloucestershire drew with Worcestershire in their two-day pre-season fixture after struggling with the bat at New Road.

Having bowled the hosts out for 271 on day one the visitors were bowled out for 168 in reply as only Hamish Marshall (26) and Geraint Jones (24) passed 20.

The pair put on 50 for the fourth wicket after Glos had slipped from 48-1 to 48-4 but it wasn't enough to help their side threaten Worcestershire's total.

Having bowled Gloucestershire out, the home side took to the crease again and posted 80-1 off 12.3 overs before the close.

On day one Craig Miles (pictured) picked up three wickets as Worcestershire collapsed from 198-2 to give the visitors the advantage going into the second day.

Earlier, a heavy shower delayed the start of the match, which was played on the same wicket as the 50 over match the previous day.

Gloucestershire won the toss and reduced Worcestershire to 21-1 when Richard Oliver was caught by Ian Cockbain at midwicket off Miles for 19 following a positive start.

This brought Tom Kohler-Cadmore and Tom Fell together at the crease and the pair put on 118 for the second wicket in just 33 overs.

Both players passed their half centuries before Fell lofted spinner Jack Taylor into the hands of Liam Norwell at long off for 64.

Former Malvern College pupil Kohler-Cadmore was joined by former Gloucestershire stalwart Alex Gidman and the pair guided Worcestershire to 132-2 at tea.

Worcestershire were strongly placed at 198-2 but lost five wickets for 14 runs  after the interval.

Kohler-Cadmore reached 85 when he was third out, caught at backward point by Will Tavare off Miles to make it 198-3.

In the next over Alexei Kervezee was adjudged lbw to Tom Hampton for a duck with only one run added.

Gidman was then dismissed by Liam Norwell for 32 and two balls later the same bowler held onto a return catch from Ben Cox who failed to trouble the scorers.

Miles claimed his third wicket when Ross Whiteley (8) was trapped lbw with Worcestershire 212-7.

Shaaiq Choudhry and Gareth Andrew added 35 before the latter was bowled by Kieran Noema-Barnett for eight.

The same bowler had Choudhry caught at slip for 34 while Jack Shantry (10) edged through to the keeper to wrap up the innings.
