Glos welcomes Caring in Bristol and Southmead Hospital Charity as 2023 Charity Partners
13 January 2023
Gloucestershire Cricket is excited to introduce our new official charity partners for 2023. Following a fantastic year of partnership with The Restore Trust and Children’s Hospice South West in 2022, Gloucestershire is proud to be working with and supporting two new and equally worthy charities during the upcoming calendar year.
In working alongside our new local, city-based charity partners, Gloucestershire Cricket aims to not only champion and support two more admirable causes as best we can, but also to use the partnerships to have a positive impact on those that surround us. The Club will work alongside all of our Charity Partners to make a real difference to the people’s lives within our communities.
Southmead Hospital Charity will take over from The Restore Trust as Gloucestershire’s Local Charity Partner for 2023. Located less than two miles from the Seat Unique Stadium, Southmead Hospital Charity use donations from kind-hearted members of the public across five critical areas – making a direct impact on the one million patients treated at North Bristol NHS Trust every year. Meanwhile, Caring in Bristol, who work year-round with people in Bristol at risk of homelessness, are replacing Children’s Hospice South West as the Club’s City Charity Partner.
The Gloucestershire Cricket Trust (GCT), the charitable arm of Gloucestershire CCC, will continue as the Club’s County-wide Charity Partner.
Jess Jones, Community Programmes Officer at Gloucestershire Cricket, said: “We’re incredibly proud to be supporting two more fantastic charities in 2023. We achieved an awful lot with our previous charity partners over the last couple of years and are really excited to work with Southmead Hospital Charity and Caring in Bristol over the next 12 months.
“Everyone at Gloucestershire Cricket is passionate about having a positive impact on local people’s lives and we believe we can make a difference in collaboration with our two new Charity Partners.”
Southmead Hospital Charity
Southmead Hospital Charity is the official charity of North Bristol NHS Trust. With the help of donors and fundraisers from Bristol and beyond, Southmead Hospital Charity works alongside the 12,000 staff at Southmead and Cossham Hospitals and the Bristol Centre for Enablement to support world-class projects in five areas including pioneering research, patient and family support, staff wellbeing and training, cutting-edge equipment and enhancing buildings and spaces. Donations to Southmead Hospital Charity enabled £3.8m of transformational projects in 2022-23.
Ian Riddell, Community Support Officer at Southmead Hospital Charity, said: “Southmead Hospital Charity is delighted to be one of Gloucestershire County Cricket Club’s chosen charities for 2023. We’re looking forward to working with everyone at the Club and its supporters over the next year to raise money to support patients, families and our incredible staff at Southmead Hospital.”

Caring in Bristol
Based in Bristol city centre, Caring in Bristol are passionate about creating a city empowered to solve homelessness. Among the charity’s vital work is their ambitious ‘blueprint for change’. Published in May 2021, the document sets out the charity’s goal of making Bristol the first major UK city to solve homelessness.
Caring in Bristol began life in 1987 as ‘Caring at Christmas,’ set up by a group of passionate Bristolians who were saddened by the sight of people sleeping rough on cold winter streets. The charity has evolved since then into an army of volunteers and full-time staff who work with adults and young people at risk of or facing homelessness crisis 365 days a year.
Luke Mitchell, Corporate and Community Partnerships Coordinator at Caring in Bristol, commented: “Our growth since 1987 isn’t just a result of the hard work and dedication of everyone inside the charity, but is also because of our donors, supporters and partners that have been so caring and passionate towards our cause. This is why a partnership like this means the world to us.
“To be selected as the charity partner for Gloucestershire is an honour and a privilege, and it will no doubt provide crucial support to allow us to increase our services even further to even more people in need.
“To say that we are excited to be selected as the charity partner is an understatement, we simply cannot wait to work with the team in various fundraising endeavours. This year has been extremely difficult for our local charity both in terms of fundraising as well as the pressures on our services, and this partnership will give us a huge boost.”
