Glos trio to do battle in Big Bash semi-final

21 January 2016

Gloucestershire’s Michael Klinger and Andrew Tye will come up against last season’s overseas player Peter Handscomb in the second Big Bash League (BBL) semi-final tomorrow (8.40am GMT).

Klinger and Tye will be hoping to help Perth Scorchers to a fourth successive final, while Handscomb’s Melbourne Stars are seeking to break a hoodoo that has seen them lose four semis in a row.

The winners will take on Sydney Thunder who caused an upset by beating tournament favourites the Adelaide Strikers who finished top of the group stages.

The three players with Gloucestershire links all go into the game in good form.

Scorchers fast bowler Andrew Tye goes into the match with 13 wickets at an average of 15.76. And he will go into the match with his confidence sky-high after being called up to the Australia T20 squad for the first time.

He has also been named in the BBL’s Team of the tournament.

Having finished as the top runscorer in last season’s BBL, Gloucestershire’s Royal London One-Day winning skipper has scored 241 runs in this year’s competition at 41.

Handscomb has been keeping wicket for the Stars and averages 29.95 with a highest score of 52.

The recent form guide would seem to favour the Stars, who beat the Scorchers by 52 runs less than a week ago. The success was the Melbourne side’s fourth regular season win over the Scorchers in a row but they have lost their last three semi-finals against them.

Scorchers are looking to make it three BBL titles in a row.

The match will be shown live on Sky Sports 1 from 8.30am GMT.
