Glos legend Mike Procter admitted to hospital for heart surgery
8 February 2022
Following a series of hospital tests on his heart over the last few days, former Gloucestershire star all-rounder Mike Procter has been admitted to hospital in Durban, in his native South Africa, and will undergo a double bypass operation on Monday 14 February.
He will remain in hospital for two weeks and his overall recovery period is expected to be 6-8 weeks.
His indominatable spirit is very much to the fore and he is facing this challenge with the same grit and determination that was such a hallmark of his brilliant playing career.
In an online poll in 2020, Mike was voted the greatest ever overseas star to play for Gloucestershire, a county he made his home for some 13 years from 1968 to 1981, during which time the county was dubbed “Proctershire” by the media, such was his dominating presence on the field of play.
The Mike Procter Foundation will provide updates as he progresses over the next few days and weeks, and Mike himself is very much looking forward to returning to both the County Ground in Bristol and Cheltenham for the 150th anniversary of the annual cricket festival during the coming summer.
Everyone at Gloucestershire Cricket has Mike in their thoughts and wishes him well for the upcoming surgery and recovery period.
