George Scott to leave Glos at the end of the season
23 September 2022
George Scott will leave Gloucestershire at the end of the season after three seasons with the Club.
Scott featured in 32 games across all formats for Shire, scoring 618 runs and taking six wickets in total. A high score of 77 came in the fourth innings against Hampshire in this season’s County Championship Division One campaign. The opener fought admirably as Glos fell 88 runs short, chasing a target of 368 for victory.
All-rounder, Scott, played his last match for Gloucestershire in the Vitality Blast against Middlesex at the Seat Unique Stadium in July. He then joined Somerset on a short-term loan in August to play in the Taunton side’s remaining Royal London Cup matches.
A highly respected and well-liked member of the first-team squad, right-hand bat, Scott, averaged 59.50 in the 2021 One-Day season for Glos, scoring two fifties in eight matches.
The 26-year-old joined Gloucestershire from Middlesex ahead of the 2020 season, making 13 first-class, 11 T20 and eight List A appearances in his two-year stint at The Shire.
Scott appeared in four County Championship matches for Glos in 2022, scoring 160 runs at an average of 33. He made one T20 Blast appearance this season.
On his departure, George Scott said: "I want to thank the club for the last few years. I've been lucky to get to know so many great people from the playing staff, to the backroom and office staff. I wish them all every success in the future.
"It is now time to take on some new challenges in my life, and I'm excited about the opportunities this will bring."
Steve Snell, Performance Director at Gloucestershire Cricket, said: “George has been a pleasure to work with at Gloucestershire but unfortunately we can’t provide him with the opportunities that we think would further his career.
“I’d like to thank George for his contribution to Gloucestershire Cricket and wish him all the best for the future.”
