George Scott joins Somerset on short-term loan
18 August 2022
Gloucestershire all-rounder George Scott has joined Somerset on a short-term loan deal.
Scott, 26, will link up with The Shire’s West Country neighbours in Taunton for the side’s final two Royal London Cup matches vs Sussex Sharks and Warwickshire.
The right-hand bat and medium fast bowler has only made five appearances across all competitions for Gloucestershire so far this season and with the loan move to Somerset, will be presented with more immediate opportunities to play first team cricket.
In four County Championship appearances for Glos in 2022, Scott has scored 160 runs at an average of 33 and a high score of 77, which was scored vs Hampshire at the Ageas Bowl in May. In the Vitality Blast Scott has featured just the once, vs Middlesex at the Seat Unique Stadium in June.
Performance Director at Gloucestershire Cricket, Steve Snell, said: “Opportunities for first-team cricket have been limited for George this season and we feel he will benefit from the chance to play for Somerset during the remaining Royal London Cup fixtures.
“This is an exciting opportunity for George and we wish him the best of luck for the duration of his loan spell.”
Since joining Gloucestershire from Middlesex ahead of the 2020 season, Scott has made 13 first-class, 11 T20 and eight List A appearances. In the 2021 Royal London Cup, Scott scored 238 runs at an average of 59.50.
