GCCC Captain to be a real driving force for 2013

Gloucestershire Cricket’s new captain Michael Klinger certainly has plenty of ‘drive’ to make a huge success of his new role thanks to Mercedes-Benz of Cheltenham & Gloucester.

The South Australian batsman has been supplied with a new C-Class Saloon by the Retailer and it’s a car in which he will be guaranteed plenty of enjoyable runs – over short distances and longer trips – as he spearheads the Club’s 2013 campaign.

Having captained South Australia for the past three seasons and with a career haul of nearly 6,000 first-class runs, Michael is relishing the prospect of leading Gloucestershire in all three domestic competitions. And whilst he is excited to be showcasing his skippering skills and batting prowess out in the middle, he can now look forward to driving in style on the road too.

“Playing a full season of English cricket is something that I’ve always wanted to do and to be given the responsibility of captaining Gloucestershire is a great opportunity and a tremendous honour too,” said Michael.

“To have the support of such a prestige business as Mercedes-Benz of Cheltenham and Gloucester is fantastic for both the club and myself,” he added. “It’s the first time that I have driven a Mercedes-Benz but it’s such a lovely car in terms of its comfort, styling and performance that I really will look forward to getting behind the wheel every day.”

Having supplied a car to Sri Lankan cricketing legend Muttiah Muralitharan during his stint with Gloucestershire during last season’s T20 campaign, Mercedes-Benz of Cheltenham and Gloucester is continuing its association with the club as one of the sponsors of the 2013 Brewin Dolphin Cheltenham Cricket Festival, which takes place between 10th and 21st July.

“Our association with Gloucestershire Cricket continues to go from strength-to-strength and it’s a high-profile partnership that we’re very proud of,” explained Steve Lyons, Mercedes-Benz of Cheltenham & Gloucester’s Dealer Principal.

“We’re thrilled to be supplying a car to Michael as the club captain and we wish him every success for the 2013 season and hope he clocks up lots of runs and wins combined with a few miles of happy motoring.”
