GCCC announces 2011 results

5 April 2012

Gloucestershire County Cricket Club is pleased to announce its results for the 16 month period from 1 October 2010 to 31 January 2012.

In the 12 months to 30 September the club made a small surplus of £3k.  This was an excellent result after pre tax deficits in the previous 2 years of £244k and £182k.

The major differences from the 2010 season were firstly on gate receipts, which increased by £79k, helped by a record Cheltenham and secondly a reduction in squad costs of £136k which was necessary in order for us to set a balanced budget.

Financially we had a better international match with Sri Lanka bringing in a larger crowd than the previous year, even if the result on the field, from an England perspective, was again disappointing.

During the year the club moved its financial year end from 30 September to 31 January.  The four month period from 1 October to 31 January is one where income is limited but expenditure is ongoing.  As a result it was always going to produce a considerable deficit; this highlights the seasonal nature of our income streams and is no different to previous years over these four months.  However, it is more visible this year due to the change in financial year end.  The one-off deficit for this 4 month period was £556k, meaning a total deficit for the 16 month period of £553k.

Tony Elgood, Honorary Treasurer said, “The turnaround from a deficit of almost £1/4m to a small surplus is excellent news and we are forecasting a significant surplus for the current year.  We took some tough decisions and competed in 2011 with a significantly younger squad.  We were, nevertheless, contenders for promotion in the Championship right up to the last game.

Our ground development plans have continued apace and we hope to have an outcome on the latest planning application on 30 May.  The scheme is vital for us to develop as a club as well as retaining international cricket in Bristol.”

The club’s AGM will be held on Monday 23 April 2012.
