GCCC Academy Scholars named in England U19s Tour

The ECB has today announced details of the England Under-19s squad for their forthcoming tour of South Africa. Included in their number are Gloucestershire Academy Scholars, Miles Hammond and Tom Shrewsbury. Leicestershire batsman, Shiv Thakor, has been appointed tour captain of the 15-strong squad.
The team will play two four-day Tests and five one-day internationals versus their South Africa counterparts early next year.
The first Test will be at Sahara Park Newlands, Cape Town, from January 27 and the second at Boland Park, Paarl, from February 3. The first ODI is on February 13 and the last eight days later.
The tour, which runs from January 23 to February 21 2013, is the initial part of the preparation for the Under-19 World Cup in February 2014 and the squad therefore predominantly consists of Under-18 and Under-17 players.
GCCC Academy Director, Owen Dawkins, said: "I am delighted with the continued success that Gloucestershire Academy players are achieving. To get Tom and Miles in the full Under 19s touring team, and potentially Kieran Smith in the 17s Tour, shows the high levels of talent coming through the Gloucestershire Academy."
GCCC Chief Executive, Tom Richardson, added: "This is brilliant news for Tom and Miles and really well done to them - I am sure they will make the most of this fantastic opportunity. There has been some terrific work and great progress made by our Academy. We have an excellent group of coaches and many congratulations to John Bracewell and his team with particular thanks to Academy Director, Owen Dawkins."
