GCCC “makes a difference” to LINC

28 November 2012

Gloucestershire County Cricket Club (GCCC) presented The Leukaemia and Intensive Chemotherapy Fund (LINC) with a cheque for money raised during the 2012 Brewin Dolphin Cheltenham Cricket Festival.  This was the fourth year that LINC was the official charity of the Cricket Festival.  During the last four years, with the generous support of those cricket fans attending the annual Festival at the College Ground, GCCC has donated over £17,000 to LINC.

LINC is an important local healthcare charity that works to improve the care of cancer patients in Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and south Worcestershire.  They provide financial and psychological support for people receiving intensive chemotherapy in the three counties cancer centre in Cheltenham as well as their families and loved ones.

They try to ensure that every facility is available to make long stays in hospital as comfortable as possible.  By purchasing new equipment and funding update courses for staff they try to ensure that the treatment on offer is second to none.   All the money raised by LINC goes towards improving the care of Leukaemia and Blood Cancer patients in the area.

LINC’s new “make a difference” appeal is to raise £500,000 to fund a full time clinical psychologist to work with haematology patients such as those with leukaemia, lymphoma and other life-threatening conditions.  To make a donation, call 08454 224422 or log on to the LINC website via www.lincfund.org

Kevin Ashley, GCCC Commercial Manager, said: “We are delighted that we have been able to support LINC in their fund raising efforts.  Having visited the facilities and seen how our donations have helped support LINC really brings home how valuable their work is.”

Karen Organ, LINC Fund Raising Manager, added: “It has been such a pleasure to have been the nominated Festival charity of Gloucestershire County Cricket Club over the past 4 years; it is a partnership that works so well for LINC.  The generosity of the corporate clients each year taking part in the traditional bat raffles has made an amazing difference to local cancer patients, we are sincerely appreciative.”
