GCB coach Lisa Pagett named runner-up in Sky Sports Coach of the Year Awards
28 November 2013
GCB clubs and programmes officer Lisa Pagett says she felt humbled after being named runner-up at the 2013 Sky Sports ECB Coach of the Year awards.
The 28-year-old was one of only three people to be shortlisted for the national prize which was announced at a glittering ceremony in the famous Long Room at Lord’s.
She said: “It was quite emotional really. As a coach you don’t often get much feedback so it is really nice when you get something like this. Going to any function in the Long Room is amazing and it was really inspiring to be surrounded by people who all give so much to the game.”
Lisa, who joined the GCB in February 2009 was nominated for her outstanding work improving women and girls cricket in the county. There are now 24 clubs with girls sections compared to just four when she started. Lisa has also overseen the development of the women and girls’ county programme.
During the presentation evening at Lord’s a video was played showing a number of Lisa’s colleagues paying tribute to her. To view the video visit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wt91upWYbpo
They included GCB cricket development manager Steve Silk, coach Dave Simpkins and Gloucestershire senior women’s captain Charlotte Walker.
Charlotte said: “If you look at the difference before Lisa came to where we are now, the strides are just huge.
“She has a really good relationship with all the players from under 13 up to senior women. She really takes an interest in the individual players and not just the team results. She is really keen to develop people not just players.”
Lisa said she felt moved by the comments as they backed up her approach to coaching.
She said: “Some of the comments really struck home - particularly those from Charlie - as they reinforced my coaching philosophy. Trying to develop people rather than players is a big part of my coaching and it is really nice that other people feel it is coming across.
“The comments were all lovely and it just helps give you confidence that you are doing the right things.”
The evening was presented by Sky Sports presenter Adam Leventhal and guests included Engalnd T20 star Michael Lumb.
Frocester CC’s Richard Woodmason also came runner-up in his category – Young Coach of the Year – details of this will be sent out shortly.
