Garrett selected for England Under 17 tour
29 January 2015
Gloucestershire Academy batsman Jordan Garrett has been selected in the England Under 17 squad to face Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates.
The 15-year-old is part of a 15-man touring party that will play three one-day matches and a three day game between February 11-17.
Jordan, who hails from Oxfordshire, is one of three under 16 players in the squad which will be captained by Middlesex’s Max Holden. His selection caps a stellar 12 months for the right hander, who made 50 against Surrey on his Second XI debut last April aged just 14. He also made history by amassing the highest individual score ever made by an Oxfordshire age group player, with 208 not out v Buckinghamshire Under 17s.
The 16-day tour of the UAE will be overseen by England Development Programme (EDP) coach Ian Brunnschweiler with support from lead spin bowling coach, Peter Such, and head of the EDP, Andy Hurry.
The entire series will take place at the ICC Academy in Dubai, with the three one-day matches being played on February 17, 19 and 21, followed by the standalone three-day match from February 24 – 26.
Commenting on the squad, former Gloucestershire player and EDP chairman of selectors, David Graveney, said: “The primary objective for the series is around providing a testing development opportunity against strong opposition in tough conditions. An overseas tour in the UAE against Pakistan U17s fits these criteria perfectly, and I am certain that everyone involved will learn a great deal.”
England will be hoping to emulate the performances of the EDP U17 side that beat Pakistan U17s in a three-match one-day series and one-off three-day match on home soil last summer.
