Future county stars go free with new membership packages

19 November 2013

Gloucestershire’s stars of tomorrow will be able to watch the current team for free next summer after it was agreed that all junior county players will receive complimentary membership.

Around 170 youngsters from the county’s 12 age group squads will benefit from the offer, which forms part of a closer working relationship between Gloucestershire Cricket and the Gloucestershire Cricket Board.

The membership package includes free entry to Gloucestershire home games across all competitions. It will be given to every player that makes their respective summer county squads from under 10 to under 17 boys, under 13, 15, 17 girls and the senior women.

Gloucestershire chief executive Will Brown said: “It is recognition of how important they are to the club and its future. We want to reward them for getting into the final county squads and make them feel like an integral part of Gloucestershire Cricket.”

The move follows the club’s announcement that it has dropped the cost of junior membership for next season from £27 to £20 - or just £17 if you sign up before January 10. The club has also raised the age limit to 19 to try and increase the number of young fans who come to watch.

Will added: “We have reduced our membership prices for juniors this year which shows our ongoing support of our junior following. We hope that by offering them top-class cricket, in a great venue and at an affordable price, we can encourage the next generation of Gloucestershire players and supporters.”

GCB cricket development manager Steve Silk welcomed the offer of free membership to county players.

He said: “It is a wonderful gesture from the county club and a great reward for our young county players. It reinforces the idea that everyone from our under 10s up to the first XI are all part of the same club. I hope our youngsters will take up the opportunity to come and watch games and it will inspire them to follow in the current squad’s footsteps.”

As well as its new junior membership, Gloucestershire Cricket is also offering its senior supporters a range of revamped packages for 2014.

These include the Twenty20 Plus offer which includes all t20 home group stage matches and all LV= County Championship and one day group stage matches that fall on weekends. This package is £99, with an additional £10 early bird discount if purchased before 10 January.
