Finders Keepers host fundraising dinner for Gloucestershire President David 'Syd' Lawrence

1 December 2024

Over 700 sports stars and friends of Gloucestershire President David 'Syd' Lawrence attended a fundraising dinner at Ashton Gate on Thursday, organised by former Gloucestershire wicket-keeper Andy Brassington and his events company Finders Keepers.

Club captain Graeme van Buuren and seamer Matt Taylor attended the event on behalf of the Club and presented David with the Vitality Blast trophy on stage, who was accompanied on stage by his son Buster.

Funds raised at the event will be donated to the Motor Neurone Disease Association and the Professional Cricketers' Trust.

The evening featured an auction of cricket memorabilia, signed bats and prints, with Jack Russell donating an original painting of him and David sharing a Test debut at Lord's in 1988.

Attendees also listened to an inspiring speech by Lawrence himself, recounting his journey from professional cricketer to his current leadership role.

Interim Chief Executive Officer at Gloucestershire Cricket, Neil Priscott, said: “The fundraising dinner, organised so superbly by Andy Brassington, was an incredibly emotional and poignant evening.

"It was humbling to be in attendance with so many people who were there to honour a Gloucestershire and English great.

"A trailblazer for the Club on and off the field, the evening captured superbly his legacy and showed the depth of love and affection people in the sport and our region have for him.

"He continues to inspire us all and we’ll continue to support him every step of the way.”
