Dent And Young Out Of Glamorgan Game
4 June 2013
Chris Dent (pictured) and Ed Young have been ruled out of Gloucestershire’s LV=County Championship match against Glamorgan at Bristol, starting on Wednesday.
Dent has not recovered from the back injury he sustained while fielding in Sunday’s Yorkshire Bank 40 win against Yorkshire at Headingley.
And Young remains under treatment for the wrist problem he suffered when struck by the ball during the Championship game against Lancashire at Liverpool.
Teenaged off-spinner Miles Hammond, who deputised for Young against Yorkshire, has been named in a squad of 12 and could make his Championship debut.
Gareth Roderick looks set to open with Michael Klinger in Dent’s absence, while James Fuller and David Payne are added to the squad on duty for the last four-day game.
Ian Saxelby remains an absentee with a shoulder problem, while Will Gidman is still struggling with an ankle injury and Jack Taylor is suspended pending the investigation into his bowling action.
Skipper Klinger is expected to play following treatment on a groin strain and is again facing the challenge of leading a depleted side.
He told this website: “You do start to wonder when the run of injuries is going to end, but they do give opportunities to other players and so far those coming in have done well.
“We want to make Bristol a fortress for us in the Championship so it’s another very important game.”
M.Klinger (capt), G.Roderick (wkt), D.Housego. A.Gidman, H.Marshall, B.Howell, M.Hammond, J.Fuller, D.Payne, C.Miles, G.McCarter, L.Norwell.
