Jack's The Lad As Seconds Draw

Jack Taylor hit a defiant half-century as Gloucestershire drew their Second XI Championship game with Kent at Maidstone.

Set a target of 353 to win in what rain reduced to 72 overs, the visitors closed on 235-6, Taylor blasting 12 fours in his 53, while Jordan Garrett contributed 48 and Chris Dent 40.

Kent began the final day on 237-8 in their second innings and extended the total to 282-8 before declaring. Dent finished with figures of 6-54 from 23 overs.

After Gloucestershire had been bowled out for 186 in reply to the home side's 256, the opening batsman got to work with his part-time off-spin.

By the close of the second day Chris had figures of 6-42 from 19 overs, reducing Kent to 237-8 in their second innings, a lead of 307 going into the final day.

Sam Northeast followed up his first innings century with 93, but the hosts still plunged to 196-8 at one stage. Jack Taylor picked up the other two wickets.

The first day of the Kent game saw the hosts make 256 after skipper Dent had won the toss for Gloucestershire.

There were four wickets each for Graeme McCarter and Robbie Williams, while David Payne and Jack Taylor claimed one apiece.

Opener Northeast led the way for Kent with 135, but their last six wickets fell for just 16 runs.
