‘Dance 4 Syd’ - Bristol music legends come together for Gloucestershire President David 'Syd' Lawrence

18 February 2025

The Bristol community continue to rally in honour of Gloucestershire Cricket legend David ‘Syd’ Lawrence with a music and fundraising event at Lost Horizon, Bristol, on Thursday 27 February.

Donned, ‘Dance 4 Syd’, the club night has been inspired by Syd’s love for music and his impact on Bristol’s music and nightclubbing scene.

On top of Syd’s professional cricketing days in Bristol and stint as Club President, during which the Club won its first Vitality Blast trophy, he owned Dojo – a pioneering nightclub to which many artists attribute their success.

The music bill is made up of Bristol-based artists and features a variety of music genres, showcasing the Bristol music scene’s diversity.

Accompanying the music on the night, a highly anticipated art auction and raffle will take place. The exclusive auction and raffle will include original works of Rob del Naja and Inkie, with a variety of other artists’ works also being up for grabs.

Alistair Baker, one of the event’s organisers said:

“When speaking with Syd on how we could fundraise for MND and honour his legacy, he insisted that we did a club event. He made sure that it was not just to raise money for the MND Association, but also to celebrate the Bristol music scene.

"Syd founded Dojo and anyone who attended the club knew he was a fixture of the dancefloor, where he was expressing himself and demonstrating his love for music.”

The event is the most recent fundraising initiative in celebration of Syd, following: ‘Bristol DJs Allegiance’ holding a 12-hour fundraising livestream, ‘Cycle 4 Syd’ where over £14,000 to date has been raised, as well as the fundraising dinner organised by Andy Brassington and Finders Keepers.

Though tickets have sold out to the fundraising event, you can still support the event via the following GoFundMe page.
