Dan Hits Brilliant 132 Against South Africans

22 August 2012

Dan Housego had a day to remember as Gloucestershire narrowly lost out in a terrific 50-over tour match against the South Africans at Bristol.

The former Middlesex batsman hit a superb 132, off 136 balls, with 11 fours and 4 sixes, as the county ran up 261 against their illustrious opponents. James Fuller was next highest scorer with 39.

Dan batted for exactly three hours and, although the South Africans went on to win by three wickets with an over to spare, it was still a match he will never forget.

He told this website: "I could hardly believe what was happening myself. In the end, I think I susprised even me.

"People have always talked about me as someone who could only play red ball cricket and that is why I joined Gloucestershire last winter.

"I knew I would get the opportunity to play one-day cricket here and I would like to think I've proved a point with this innings.

"South Africa did not pick their best bowlers, but they still have amazing depth and there were some pretty good players out there, which makes my knock even more special.

"I've worked really hard on imporving my one-day skills this year and I paced myself, picked my shots carefully and tried not to take too many risks until the end."

"We probably needed one more decent partnership to get up to a really good score, but we came up short.

"I'm not getting carried away by my innings, because I play cricket to be on the winning side and have ended up losing in a close game.

"South Africa are a good side and we have been competitive and given them a really good match. But that does not count for a great deal when you lose."
