Craig Fit For Festival Return

9 July 2013

Craig Miles will be able to call upon some happy memories as he looks to extend a breakthrough LV=County Championship season in the match against Kent, which launches the Cheltenham Festival tomorrow.

It was at the College Ground in 2011 that Craig, then only just 17, announced himself a first team player by taking 2-32 in a 40-over victory over Essex, England one-day international Ravi Bopara being one of his victims.

The young all-rounder was still at college at the time. This season he has emerged as Gloucestershire’s leading wicket-taker in the Championship with 26.

Fit again after treatment on a sore heel, Craig has been named in a squad of 12 for the Kent game and will be hoping for some bounce in the Festival pitch to suit his high action.

Loan signing Tom Smith has also been selected in the squad and the Middlesex player’s participation will depend on an assessment of the wicket in the morning.

Gloucestershire go into the game fifth in the Second Division, still very much in the promotion race, while Kent are bottom, having failed to win any of their eight Championship matches so far.

A good Cheltenham, which also features a Championship clash with Worcestershire, could see Gloucestershire close the gap on second placed Lancashire, who have played one game more.

There are also three exciting Friends Life t20 games to look forward to at what promises to be a thrilling Festival, blessed by good weather and bumper crowds.

Play starts at 11am tomorrow.
