Craig And Gareth Star On Opening Day

Craig Miles (pictured) claimed four wickets and Gareth Roderick hit an unbeaten 88 as Gloucestershire dominated the first day of the LV=County Championship match with Worcestershire at New Road.
The hosts were bowled out for 194 after losing the toss, Miles returning 4-54, while Liam Norwell took 3-45 and Benny Howell 3-27.
Gloucestershire then replied with 181-2, Roderick sharing an unbroken third-wicket stand of 138 with acting skipper Alex Gidman, who ended the day on 57 not out.
Opener Richard Oliver top-scored for Worcestershire with 52 at a run a ball, including 12 fours, but they failed to capitalise on a promising 81-2 and lost their last seven wickets for 89.
New Zealand Test player Mark Craig sent down his first four overs of off-spin for Gloucestershire, conceding 20 runs, as his team took maximum bowling points.
The visitors lost Chris Dent and Will Tavare in progressing to 43 before Roderick and Gidman took control.
By stumps Roderick, who had taken five catches in the Worcestershire innings, had faced 107 balls, hitting 15 fours, while Gidman’s innings had occupied 103 deliveries and featured nine boundaries.
