County Championship Preview | Gloucestershire v Glamorgan
10 April 2025
Gloucestershire return to Bristol for the first time in 2025 as they host Glamorgan in the County Championship edition of the Severnside derby.
Last year, the fixture took the cricketing world by storm as it ended in a tie on the final ball of day four. James Bracey’s now famous diving one-handed grab led to wild celebrations in front of the crowd in Cheltenham.
In the second week of the County Championship, Gloucestershire will be hungry to get their first win of the season on the board as they aim for promotion from Division 2.

OUR OPPONENTS
In 2024, Glamorgan pipped Gloucester by just four points in the final league table, but last week suffered a 10-wicket loss to Leicestershire at home.
Cardiff-born Kiran Carlson top-scored for the Welsh side in their capital last week and looks to bring his form across the Prince of Wales Bridge for Friday.
Sri Lankan Test bowler Asitha Fernando and Andy Gorvin were the pick of the bowlers for Glamorgan last weekend, taking four wickets each in the first innings as Leicestershire scored 427 in 118 overs.
Fernando, expected to be a big part of captain Sam Northeast's bowling line-up this season, last played in Bristol in the 2021 international summer for Sri Lanka against England in an ODI, but was unable to bowl after rain swept through following the conclusion of the visitors' innings.
LAST MEETING
The last instalment of the Severnside derby took place at the end of September 2024. The Autumnal weather played its part as both sides forfeited an innings to encourage a result. Gloucestershire tried to chase down Glamorgan’s 381 with limited time but ultimately fell short with Glamorgan winning by 192 runs.
The more memorable meeting between the two sides in 2024 was an all-time County Championship classic. Whilst both sides struggled in the first innings, posting below-par totals, Gloucestershire set Glamorgan 592 to win, following centuries from Cameron Bancroft and Miles Hammon alongside a double hundred from James Bracey.
Glamorgan’s fightback was led by Sam Northeast and Marnus Labuschagne who both reached triple figures. But it proved not enough as Ajeet Singh Dale would take the final wicket with the last ball of the match, as it ended in the highest-scoring tie in the competition's history.
