Cap For Patrick On Tough Day For Bowlers
22 June 2014
Patrick Grieshaber was presented with his Gloucestershire county cap on a batsmen-dominated second day of the LV=County Championship match against Glamorgan at the Bristol County Ground.
The presentation was made at tea by the club's Honorary Treasurer Tony Elgood to the 17-year-old Academy wicketkeeper, called in for a surprise first team debut when Cameron Herring was injured in the warm-up for the first day's play.
Patrick had earlier scored his first Championship runs for Gloucestershire, making ten in a useful eighth-wicket stand of 36 with Benny Howell as his side were bowled out for 391 from an overnight 308-5.
By the close Glamorgan has replied with 209-2, Jacques Rudolph hitting an unbeaten 108 and Will Bragg 67 as the bowlers struggled to make much impression on a pitch offering little assistance.
Tom Smith claimed the two wickets that did fall, sending back Bragg and Mark Wallace to end the day with 2-62 from 19 overs.
At the close Patrick Grieshaber told this website: “It was a dream come true to be presented with my Gloucestershire cap here at the County Ground.
“It is something I have thought about coming up through the schoolboy ranks and, of course, it has happened a lot quicker than I could have expected.
“My parents are very proud and so am I. It is a day I will always remember.”
Asked about his first experience of wicketkeeping in the Championship, Patrick said: “It is a massive step up from club cricket because the bowlers do so much more with the ball.
“It’s all about concentration and keeping your eye on it as it moves around. I am enjoying every minute of the experience.”
