3 October 2024

Gloucestershire Cricket was delighted to host the annual Gloucestershire County Age Group Awards evening last night as we celebrated our Young Cricketers from the Boys' and Girls' Pathway for another fantastic season in 2024.

Vitality Blast champion, David Payne, and former England batter, Fran Wilson, presented awards to all the award winners with each County Age Group awarded a ‘Performance of the Year’ award and ‘Player of the Year’ award.

Gloucestershire CCC and the Gloucestershire Cricket Foundation (GCF) would like to thank all of the players and parents who were in attendance. We would also like to thank the clubs who hosted our matches, umpires and scorers which were an important and vital part of all of our matches and to the Bristol Pavilion for hosting the evening.

Player of the Year: Ella Harrison

An all-round superstar who batted with composure, bowled with intent, and ended the season as the all-time top run-scorer for the U11 girls.

U12s boys award winners

Performance of the Year: Nathan James

Nathan started his 2024 journey out of form and searching for runs. Following some early season fielding trials, he came alive fielding at Gully with the new nickname “Greeny” named after the Aussie Cameron Green.

Going into the festival at Shrewsbury he was low on confidence and out of form. However, with the support of all those around him and - when the team needed him most -  he blasted a fantastic 76 runs in a 253 total  proving too much to see off Northants in the final game and sealing Gloucs the Shrewsbury tournament victory.

Player of the Year: Ronnie Freeman

Ronnie impressed us with his consistent batting performances this season accumulating 616 runs with scores of 5 x 50 or more and  2 centuries at an average of 47. With an impressive strike rate of 88.

Captaining an unbeaten side - demonstrating confidence, energy, and enthusiasm. Attributes which might just create a formidable individual.

U12s girls award winners

Performance of the Year: Frankie Halliday

Frankie delivered a spectacular bowling performance, taking 4 for 11 (all bowled) against Warwickshire in just 2 overs. Consistently effective throughout the season, also taking 3 for 10 and 3 for 7 against Wiltshire

Player of the Year: Freya Wilson

Her batting prowess was evident, scoring 285 runs at an average of 57, with a strike rate of 91. Her six not-outs and match-winning performances, including 51 not out versus Hertfordshire, made her a standout player this season

U13s boys award winners

Performance of the Year: Charlie Parsons

There were various performances that could have been chosen, but for this particular batting performance against a strong bowling attack to win the game by 5 wickets against Wales this stood out amongst them. An opening batter that has shown great promise and progress throughout the summer played a fine innings of 79 from 116 balls to calmly chase down 172.

Player of the Year: Olly Michael

During the season, this individual progressed steadily with the bat and improved to get the scores that he deserved through perseverance and hard work. Against some vastly skilled bowling attacks he scored the most vital runs when the team required them. His batting displays for Gloucestershire this summer could not be ignored and also being a wicket keeper his workload was always extensive.

He has developed his style to combat both pace and spin bowling and scores at a strike rate above 85%. This player's potential for the future will be interesting to witness and with a total of 362 runs at an average of 32.91 he will undoubtably still improve. He is very well respected amongst his peers and plays with a huge smile on his face.

U13s girls award winners

Performance of the Year: Sophie Compton

With a hat-trick against Somerset, where she bowled the last three batters to secure a key win this stood out as the performance of the season.

Player of the Year: Eloise Maggs

Having an outstanding season with 256 runs at an average of 43 and a strike rate of 94.46, with three half-centuries. Her improvement in batting, coupled with her fearless fielding, made her the team’s standout player.

U14s boys award winners

Performance of the Year: James Hutchings

The last ECB Cup fixture saw us playing the already champions Hants with an unbeaten 7 from 7. Batting first we started positive scoring 50 off the first ten overs, and a 100 in 17.4 overs. Setting the tone and going on to score 107, 14 4s and a six with a strike rate over 100, including partnerships of 63 and 161 which ensured Gloucs posted an insurmountable total of 297.

Player of the Year: James Hutchings

With the backing and freedom to express himself, this individual had a role up the top of the order, which he relished and seized with aplomb. He has been instrumental in four 70+ opening partnerships, and one second wicket partnership of 137, amassing nearly 500 runs including a 107 in the last ECB Cup game against the then unbeaten champions. Seeing his growth and development over the season is testament to his determination and will to succeed.

U15s boys award winners

Performance of the Year: Nirvaan Jain

This player has had a terrific year with both bat and ball. On a tricky wicket against Devon (even though you wouldn’t have thought it from the scores) he came in and played fluently as he added 59 in less than six overs with Joseph Armitage. With 51 not out off 33 balls including 8 fours.

Player of the Year: Henry Rendell

This award goes to a batter who scored 2 fifties and fielded consistently well throughout the season for the 15s. He also acquitted himself when playing up at 16s level and scored a 50 for the under 18s to help them get over the line v Wales. His attitude has been superb all season, and when he bats, he plays with an aggressive nature and freedom that takes the game to the opposition.

U15s girls award winners

Performance of the Year: Lily Sheppard

There were multiple performances of the year but there was simply no way of neglecting this bowling display. On the final game of the season, she certainly saved her best until last, 1 for 5 off 1.2 overs.

Player of the Year: Lucy Bull

This year we had a difficult decision as to who we were to award this too, as there were a few players striving for this award, for example Imogen for her teamwork/captainship. The player we have chosen has also supported the team in all aspects of the game, fielding (2 catches, 2 runouts), batting (410 runs) and bowling (12 wickets).

U16s boys award winners

Performance of the Year: Harrison Tegg

This award goes to a player who played an unbelievably mature innings to produce a stunning knock off against Wiltshire. With the score at 129 for 8 he managed to shepherd the tail to knock off a total of 240 as he scored a brilliant 74 not out.

Player of the Year: Harry Bryan

This player showed resilience when batting to help the side get over the line in the first 2 matches of the season. He scored a fine half century in a losing cause against Berkshire. His bowling displays also earnt him a call up to the under 18s, where he took 4 wickets in a 3 day game against Northants. He also led a young side in some of the fixtures with great maturity.

U18s boys award winners

Performance of the Year: James Matravers

170* vs Northants vs Bath Cricket Club

Player of the Year: Alfie Johnson

257.3 overs 32 maidens 42 wickets for 1032, Avg 24.57

U18s girls award winners

Performance of the Year: Jen Rivers

The term metronomic could have been invented for this bowler whose skill and consistency doesn’t always take the headlines but is always valued by her teammates and coaches. Against Hampshire she produced a performance to remember. 5-17 including 4 wickets in a single over as the visitors crashed from 144-2 to 145-6 – a collapse they never recovered from.

Player of the Year: Sophie Smith Graham

In her first year of U18s she took 16 wickets including two 5 wicket hauls – 5-16 v Devon in the crunch 50 over match and a remarkable 5-6 against the same opposition in the last game of the season. She also scored 2 50s and finished the season with the second highest batting average.
