Consistency Has Let Us Down - Alex

14 September 2012

Alex Gidman spoke honestly about the season after a two-wicket defeat by Leicestershire at Grace Road condemned Gloucestershire to bottom place in the LV=County Championship.

The team fought all the way after a handy last wicket partnership between Jon Batty (40 not out) and Liam Norwell (7) extended their second innnings total to 296 all out.

That set Leicestershire a victory target of 236 and they looked to be cruising at 205-3 before Will Gidman and James Fuller took a hand to reduce them to 218-8.

From their Wayne White and Nathan Buck saw the hosts home and the 21 points they picked up to Gloucestershire's four lifted them abouve their opponents in the Second Division table.

Leicestershire were indebted to Ned Eckersley (63) and Josh Cobb (65), while Gidman finished with 3-42 and Fuller 3-75.

After the game Alex Gidman told this website: "It's hard finishing bottom, but it is a results business and over 16 games I guess that is where we deserve to be.

"The last couple of weeks have summed up our inconsistency. We played well for two and a half days against Northants to pull off a great win, yet against Leicestershire we probably only played to our full potential for half a day.

"That is something we have to address. We were pretty average in the afternoon session today and then gathered ourselves for a real go after tea, which almost turned things around.

"That showed how good we can be. But it has to happen on a much more regular basis."
