Community Matches

2 August 2013

The Gloucestershire Cricket Board is inviting young people from a number of its projects to attend matches at the Bristol County Ground for free this summer.

Participants from its inner city schemes in Bristol, disability cricket teams and county and district age group squads will be able to attend one of three special community days in August.

On August 13 players from Gloucestershire’s representative teams will be invited to the Yorkshire Bank 40 game with Leicestershire Foxes. As part of their experience the players will do a lap of honour during the interval, meet a player and be given their own designated seating area.

The same offer will also be available to people who have taken part in disability cricket during the YB40 match between Gloucestershire and Glamorgan on August 18 and on August 20 youngsters who have taken part in inner-city cricket schemes in Bristol will be treated to a day watching the England Lions take on Bangladesh A.

GCB cricket development manager Steve Silk said: “These community days are a chance for us to recognise people involved in a wide range of different projects and thank them for their commitment to cricket in Gloucestershire. They also provide a great opportunity for young people who might not normally attend a Gloucestershire match to experience the thrill and excitement of a live game. We are grateful to Gloucestershire Cricket for their support in making these days possible.”

If you/your child are involved in county age squads, disability cricket or inner city schemes like StreetChance and you would like to take up the opportunity of attending one of the community days please email steve.silk@glosccc.co.uk or chris.munden@glosccc.co.uk.

In a separate offer children will be able to attend Gloucestershire’s Yorkshire Bank 40 games with Leicestershire and Glamorgan for free thanks to a new initiative from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).

The one-day matches at the Bristol County Ground, on August 13 and 18 are part of a national promotion. Kids can go to the selected matches free with a paying adult as the ECB looks to attract more youngsters to watch live cricket at their local county during the school holidays.
