Come And Support Us Says New Skipper

22 April 2013

Michael Klinger is calling on Gloucestershire supporters to make maximum effort to attend the opening LV=County Championship home match of the season against Northamptonshire, starting on Wednesday.

The new captain is looking forward to leading his side out at the County Ground for the first time and is hoping to be greeted by an enthusiastic crowd.

Michael told this website: "Playing at Bristol as Gloucestershire captain is something I have been anticipating since I signed for the club.

"The prospect of leading a young and improving team for an entire season really appealed to me and Wednesday will be a big day for me and my family.

"Hopefully, we can attract a decent crowd. There was much to be pleased about in our opening Championship game at Chelmsford and we will be looking to build on that.

"The backing of our supporters will be hugely important to us throughout the summer and we will be doing our utmost to repay it, starting against Northants.

"They have a strong batting line-up and arrive top of the Second Division following a great win over Essex so we know we are in for a tough challenge."

Gloucestershire must select from a squad lacking the injured James Fuller, Ian Saxelby and Paul Muchall.

Michael added: "At the moment I am leaving the selection process to the coaches as I haven't been here long enough to make a valid contribution.

"After a few games when I have had a chance to assess the group of players I will be getting involved."
