Cockbain hits century in Second XI win over Afghanistan

Gloucestershire's Second XI faced international opposition on Sunday and recorded a fine win in the process.
Afghanistan, who have recently gained test playing status were the opponents in the 40-over friendly which took place at Bedminster Cricket Club.
An experience Gloucestershire side was named, including Ian Cockbain, Benny Howell and Chris Liddle.
With Afghanistan posting 330-9 from their 40 overs, their decision to bat looked a good one. Top scoring for Afghanistan were N Jamal 58 and S Shafaq 55 both retired out.

Wicket takers for Gloucestershire were Matt Taylor (7-0-30-4) together with local Bedminster talent George Drissell (5-0-36-1) and Miles Hammond (5-0-41-1). The other wicket to fall came from a runout by a direct hit from Ian Cockbain.
Gloucestershire's reply was set up by James Bracey 36 (who was captaining the side) and Miles Hammond 31.
Experienced batsman Ian Cockbain hit 102 runs off 79 balls, whilst George Hankins 78 also kept the scoreboard ticking over.
With 18 runs needed off the last over Jordan Garrett was run-out on 28 with just 3 balls to go.
All-rounder, Benny Howell (35 not out) hit the winning boundary for an impressive victory over their international opponents with a ball to spare.
