Clubs gear up for "An Evening With The Champions"
8 January 2016
Gloucestershire head coach Richard Dawson and members of his Royal London One-Day Cup winning squad are taking the trophy on tour to help strengthen their relationship with the county’s clubs.
The “Evening With The Champions” events will take place in the New Year at 15 clubs across the County.
The ‘tour’ will visit all four corners of the county from Moreton-in-Marsh in the north, Fairford in the east, Brislington in the south and Dymock in the west
During the evening, club members will have the chance to meet Richard and the players and take part in a question and answer session on all aspects of the game.
Richard said: “It is about trying to connect with our clubs and make them feel a part of Gloucestershire Cricket.
“Building a stronger relationship can only help strengthen both professional and recreational cricket in Gloucestershire.”
The events – which have been coordinated by the Gloucestershire Cricket Board (GCB) - are free of charge. The only stipulation is that clubs must ensure at least 40 people attend and at least 10 must be junior cricketers.
GCB Chief executive Steve Silk said: “It is fantastic that Gloucestershire Cricket realise the importance of its clubs and want to have a greater relationship with them.
“These evenings will give clubs a first-hand insight into the mentality of a trophy-winning squad. I hope they will not only inspire existing Gloucestershire fans but the next generation of players and supporters as well.”
“We are encouraging clubs to use the evenings to bring people together at the start of pre-season and make them into real social events.”
The events are the latest in a number of ways that Gloucestershire Cricket has sought to connect with the grass roots game in recent years.
Other initiatives include Gloucestershire players helping at Natwest CricketForce events, attending end of season presentation evenings and being allocated to play for clubs in the top two tiers of league cricket.
These events are only open to cricket club members and must be booked through the clubs themselves.
