Chris Inspires Victory In Opening Friendly
19 March 2014
Skipper Chris Dent led from the front as Gloucestershire beat Glamorgan by three-wickets in a closely-fought 50-over friendly at Bristol.
Contributing 63 to an opening stand of 79 with Alex Gidman, the left-hander smashed 4 sixes and 7 fours and laid the foundation for his side to reach their target of 276 with four balls to spare.
Ian Cockbain (74 off 99 balls) and Gareth Roderick (74 not out off 79 balls) later put together a fourth wicket stand of 112 to build on the brisk start.
Graham Wagg claimed 3-44 for the visitors, but could not prevent a morale-boosting victory for the hosts in their opening warm-up fixture.
There were two wickets each for Will Gidman and young off-spinner Tom Shrewsbury as Glamorgan rattled up 275 for seven from their 50 overs batting first.
Chris Cooke top scored with 79 not out from 66 balls, with 7 fours and 2 sixes, while opener Stewart Walters hit 51 and Ben Wright 38.
Liam Norwell was the most economical of Gloucestershire’s seamers with one for 40 from his ten overs.
Shrewsbury took 2-27 from six overs, while fellow spinner Tom Smith had the best economy rate off all the bowlers, conceding only 26 from his seven overs.
The two teams face each other again in a two-day friendly at Cardiff, starting tomorrow.
