Cheltenham Festival A Thrill For Michael

4 July 2013

Michael Klinger can’t wait to take part in his first Cheltenham Festival next week.

The Gloucestershire captain has never even visited the College Ground, but has been filled with enthusiasm by his team-mates for this year’s event, which starts next Wednesday with an LV=County Championship match against Kent.

Michael told this website: “Everyone talks so much about the Festival and how good it is to play there.

“The only time I have been to Cheltenham was for a sponsors evening a month or two back, but the boys are always raving about the place and what a good atmosphere there is at the ground.

“I didn’t know much about the Festival until I arrived at Gloucestershire, but now I am really excited at the prospect of playing there.”

This season Twenty20 cricket is part of the Cheltenham schedule for the first time, with matches against Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Glamorgan.

While Michael admits knowledge of their home ground at Bristol can be an advantage to Gloucestershire, he has no complaints about taking the show on the road.

“T20 cricket is all about entertainment and it’s great for us to take it to a new venue,” he said.

“I’m sure a lot of our supporters from Bristol will rock up there and we will also attract people from other parts of the county.

“From what I hear Cheltenham will be a terrific place for T20 and we can be sure of a packed crowd.”
