Cheltenham Beckons For Excited Will And Co

8 July 2013

It's Cheltenham time and Gloucestershire's players are already gearing themselves up for what should be one of the most exciting Festivals ever.

It starts on Wednesday with an LV=County Championship match against Kent and the team will also be looking to boost their Second Division promotion challenge against Worcestershire at the College Ground.

But the big difference this year is the introduction of Friends Life t20 matches, with Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Glamorgan providing the opposition.

That has put an even greater buzz in the home dressing room and no one is more eager to be involved than Will Gidman, who was ruled out of last year's Festival by injury.

He said: "I missed out on Cheltenham last summer, so I'm absolutely desperate to get out there. It's a great two weeks and i'd love to play in every fixture if possible.

"The idea of Twenty20 at the ground, with the crowds and atmosphere we get there, is fantastic and too good to miss."

Will looks sure to be part of Gloucestershire's seam attack for the Kent game, while Craig Miles is hoping to be fit following treatment for an ankle problem.

Craig has bowled well at Cheltenham before and has been in great form this season with 26 Championship wickets at an average of 23.81.

Will is full of praise for the 18-year-old. "For a lad of that age to come in and do the job he has done is tremendous," he said.

"He has bowled some heavy deliveries and been very economical, apart from taking wickets. I'm proud of all our young bowlers - but Craig in particular."
