Centurion Cockbain leads Glos to friendly win in Cardiff

An unbeaten 125 by Iain Cockbain, who shared a stand of 172 in 33.4 overs with Benny Howell (81) saw Gloucestershire to a four-wicket victory over Glamorgan in their 50-over friendly at The SSE SWALEC.

Gloucestershire won the toss and elected to bowl. Glamorgan initially looked comfortable at the crease and scored 89 runs without loss.

It was the wicket of David Lloyd, LBW off the bowling of Jack Taylor that got things moving for Gloucestershire.

With Patrick Grieshaber behind the wicket, Taylor went on to take one more wicket throughout the innings.

It was also an impressive bowling performance from Miles Hammond. The 21 year old took three quick wickets, including the crucial wicket of Glamorgan captain Rudolph who was looking comfortable on 60.

There was also a wicket each for Noema Barnett, Matt Taylor and Benny Howell. Glamorgan ended their innings 252/9.

Roderick and Gilmour were tasked with opening the batting for Gloucesterhsire, but the partnership didn’t last long, Roderick was out for 6.

With Jack Taylor and Brandon Gilmour both out for single fiqures and Gloucestershire 21/3, the away side needed some firepower.

Step up Ian Cockbain and Benny Howell. The pair were aggressive and scored runs quickly.

With a combined total of 17 ‘fours’ and 2 ‘sixes’ the pair achieved a stand of 172 before Howell, who hit 81, miscued a drive into the hands of Murphy at cover.

Cockbain continued to dominate the Glamorgan bowlers and went on to lead Gloucestershire to a four wicket win, scoring 125 not out.
