Cameron Bancroft signs one-year extension at Gloucestershire Cricket
24 July 2024
Australian batter Cameron Bancroft has signed a one-year contract extension at Gloucestershire Cricket.
The 31-year-old will spend the entirety of the 2025 season at the Seat Unique Stadium and will be eligible to play in all formats again next year for Gloucestershire.
A new signing ahead of the 2024 campaign, Bancroft has been in terrific form so far this season particularly in red-ball cricket. In the County Championship Division Two alone, Bancroft has scored 745 runs in eight matches at an average of 57.30, the eighth most in the league. His best score, a patient 184 off 266 balls, came against Glamorgan at Cheltenham College in what turned out to be a breath-taking tie off the final ball of the match.
In the T20 Vitality Blast, Bancroft ended the group stage of the tournament as Gloucestershire’s highest and the competition’s ninth highest run-scorer with 399 runs at an average of 30.69. An accomplished slip fielder also, Bancroft has taken 17 catches across both formats.
Speaking of his excitement at returning to Gloucestershire next year, Bancroft said: "I’ve enjoyed so much being a part of the club this season that when the opportunity came around to extend, it was a no brainer for me. There’s been a lot of great positives so far this season, the group have been building nicely and that’s something I really want to contribute to moving forward."
Born in Attadale, Western Australia, Bancroft scored 82* vs England at the Gabba on the second day of his Test debut. In the two years that followed, he went on to scored 446 runs in ten Test matches for Australia.
Head Coach at Gloucestershire Cricket, Mark Alleyne, said: "I'm delighted Cam will be joining us for another season in 2025. His impact this year has been immense and not only does he bring composure, quality and runs at the top of the order, he also brings a spirituality to the group which is something I am very fond of.
"Cam embodies what it means to play cricket for Gloucestershire and I'm really excited to have him with us for next season."
