Busy Michael Will Need Break - Bracewell

13 February 2014

Michael Klinger has reported a full recovery from the hamstring problem he suffered during the Big Bash T20 competition in Australia and continues to enjoy a busy summer back home.

The club’s Director of Cricket John Bracewell keeps in regular contact with the skipper by email and actually believes the injury setback Michael suffered might have been a blessing in disguise.

John told this website: “It actually forced Michael to take a break from cricket, which is very hard to do. When it happened I emailed him saying I thought it was good news!

“He played almost every game in all three competitions for us last summer and even took part in the tour match because he wanted to face Australia A.

“There were some inevitable niggles, which bothered him, I remember we had to drive him up to Yorkshire because he had hurt a hip and couldn’t drive himself.

“Even then he refused not to play the next day and went out and made a big score. He is a man of character.

“Since returning to Australia he has enjoyed a very good run in their 50-over competition and done well in the Big Bash as well as helping South Australia to be leaders of the Sheffield Shield, so it has been quite a schedule."

Michael will take a short break for a family holiday at the end of the Australian season and will take no part in Gloucestershire's warm-up fixtures.

He is due to arrive back in England a week before the new LV= County Championship campaign kicks-off with a home game against Hampshire, starting on April 13th.

John explained: “Michael will miss our pre-season so he and his family have a chance to freshen up with a holiday on their way over.

“That is going to be very important to him after so much virtually uninterrupted cricket.”
