Bristol's StreetChance

6 November 2012

Bristol’s Junaid Hussain won “Champagne moment” of the day at the national StreetChance competition in Birmingham.

His spectacular one-handed diving catch to win the last match against Dewsbury, capped a good day for the junior team who won half of their eight fixtures.

The highlight for the under 14 side – who were made up of players from the Easton StreetChance sessions - was their two victories over the eventual champions Manchester.

The competition at the NIA featured a inner-city boroughs from across the country playing 20-ball-a-side matches.

The Bristol junior team began badly, losing their opening games to Birmingham and Newham but bounced back to win three out of their last four matches.

GCB development officer Chris Munden, who runs the Bristol StreetChance programme said: “The juniors will feel slightly disappointed as they had the chances to win the games that they lost. We played some good cricket and beat the eventual winners Manchester twice, which shows how strong we were.

“It was fantastic to see lads taking part who wouldn’t be playing cricket if it wasn’t for StreetChance.”

Bristol’s senior team fared less well losing all four of their matches against Dewsbury, Hull, Newham and Manchester.

Chris said: “The seniors were up against some serious competition this year but there were a lot of positives to take with Harpreet Klair and captain Del Ford shining with both bat and ball. I think that teamwork and discipline are the two areas that the team can work on going forward but both teams were an asset to Bristol. They showed maturity, skill and tenacity and really enjoyed the occasion.”
