Bristol Pavilion Opening Ceremony

12 August 2013

Bristol’s newest sport, conferencing, party and community venue has been handed over officially to Gloucestershire County Cricket Club.

The contractors Galliford Try have completed the build at Nevil Road in 10 months. Today marks the end of the first stage of the major works at the ground which are necessary to ensure International cricket continues to be played in Bristol and for the Club to go forward as a major venue.

“It’s fantastic to finally get the keys to the new Bristol Pavilion today.” Tom Richardson, the outgoing CEO says. “I’m delighted to be able to say we are the first venue in Bristol to successfully realise their ambition to build new sporting facilities.”

The Bristol Pavilion is spread over three floors with bars, restaurants, a media centre and a variety of spaces to use for any event such as conferencing, parties, community groups, local traders fairs or workshops and can host events for up to 400 guests. There are also hospitality boxes with panoramic views across Bristol which on non-match days can be used as meeting rooms or even an intimate venue to host a dinner party.

For the Premier Club members of the cricket club, their new lounge is the real showstopper. From the second floor you can now enjoy watching the game from a double height room with fantastic views behind the bowler’s arm.

“It’s been an exciting challenge to build the Bristol Pavilion and a real honour to have led the team to complete such a prestigious project.” Jon Young, Senior Project Manager with Galliford Try says. “Although our direct involvement with this part of the project has come to an end, I’m excited to see how the Club and community will now use these fantastic facilities.”

The Bristol Pavilion will be formally opened on Monday 26 August just before the YB40 match against Somerset in a special ceremony celebrating Gloucestershire’s Past, Present and Future.

The gates will open at 11.00 am where fans will be entertained by street performers, musicians, inflatable games for the kids and a beer festival marquee for the adults before the match, which will start at 1.45 pm.

The ceremony will be hosted by Jed Pitman with some famous faces from Gloucestershire’s past making an appearance.
